Example: $300 cash + $30 service fee + $5 verification fee = $335 due after 14 days; annualized fee comparison 304.17%.
Florida single-payment educational example. The wheel changes only the example cash amount; the exact field lets you enter any value up to the statutory $500 limit. Fee caps are not an offer. Annualized comparison = total fees ÷ cash received × 365 ÷ days × 100. Compare any real offer with the provider’s required disclosures.
These rules do not classify every loan sold online.
A general personal loan, a bank-originated product, a credit-card cash advance and a deferred-presentment agreement should not be grouped under the same limits merely because each provides cash. Florida OFR describes a separate consumer-finance framework and exceptions.
Identify the creditor and product in the agreement, then check the applicable regulator or license type. A corporate registration is not the same thing as permission to conduct a regulated loan business. A Google category or directory listing is not that permission either.
A practical provider-verification sequence
| Step | What to do | What counts as useful evidence |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Identify | Read the provider’s exact legal or trade name and contact details. | The agreement and the provider’s own official disclosures. |
| 2. Choose the record | Open OFR’s license-verification page and select the relevant business type. | The official lookup, not an marketing badge or logo. |
| 3. Match | Compare name, license category, status and relevant location where available. | A matching record appropriate to the actual product. |
| 4. Resolve differences | Ask the provider or regulator about material inconsistencies. | A documented explanation, not an assumption that similar names match. |
| 5. Save | Keep the agreement, disclosures and date of your check. | A record of what was shown when you made the decision. |
Payment difficulty: two different relief routes.
| Structure | When to notify the provider | Conditions and effect |
|---|---|---|
| Single payment | In writing or in person, by the end of the deferment period. | A 60-day grace period without additional charge, subject to the required counseling steps. Make an appointment within seven days, complete counseling during the grace period, and notify the provider of compliance. |
| Deferred-presentment installment | In writing or in person, by noon of the business day before the scheduled payment, in the agreement’s timezone. | One payment deferral per transaction, without an additional charge. The deferred payment goes after the last scheduled payment at an interval no shorter than the original intervals. |
These protections have specific procedures; they are not a general promise that any loan can be extended. Ask the provider for its required counseling list or deferral process. Use support and complaint routing when the right contact is unclear.
Before signing, reconcile the agreement with the table.
Read the net cash provided, finance charge, APR disclosure, total payment obligation, dates and payment method. The provider must supply the disclosures that apply to the actual transaction. The provider’s written terms—not this summary—establish the offer you are considering.
If a quote appears inconsistent with the Florida rules shown here, ask the provider to explain the product and keep the agreement and disclosures. Florida OFR provides an official complaint route when a covered issue cannot be resolved.

Florida rule questions
Can I treat the $1,000 installment cap as a $1,000 single-payment payday cap?
No. Florida treats them as different deferred-presentment structures with different amount, term, fee and repayment rules.
Does a corporation record or Google business listing prove a lending license?
No. Business identity records and authorization for a regulated financial product are different questions. Verify the actual provider through the appropriate regulator.
Does the Florida limit mean Catapult itself is the lender?
No. The state limits describe the covered product. If you receive an offer, verify the provider named in the agreement and the authorization that applies to that provider and product.

Review the repayment and provider disclosures, then continue to the application when you are ready.
